Lamborghini Urus Rental Ends in Costly Crash

An almost-new 2022 Lamborghini Urus went out on a one-month rental. Two hours later, it returned to the rental company with massive damage on the passenger's side. Now, the owner of the company is desperately looking for replacement parts.

The driver who rented the car, Rob Ferretti, the owner of the exotic car rental, informed him about the accident. Rob couldn't help but wonder how bad the damage could be, considering the car had only left the yard two hours before. However, when the car arrived back, Rob was shocked. The red Lamborghini, known as Rosso Mars, looked like it had been through a disaster. The right side of the car, including both doors, the sill, and the front fender, had suffered serious damage. The rear door was so misaligned that it seemed impossible to open due to the deformation. Additionally, the mirror was hanging loose and needed replacement. According to the driver, the car was sideswiped by another driver while waiting at a traffic light.

The extent of the damage has rendered the car unusable, and finding replacement parts has proven to be a challenge. Two weeks have passed since the crash, and the rental company is still struggling to locate the necessary parts from other crashed Lamborghinis. The cost of the replacement parts alone amounts to $36,292, not including the $9,487 for body labor. In addition, there is a need for $6,987 in paint labor, $4,192 for paint work on the frame, estimated at $1,050, $128 for body supplies, and $35 for miscellaneous expenses. When adding up all these costs, the total comes to $58,173. With sales tax, the bill exceeds $62,000.

Rob is faced with the daunting task of covering these expenses to fix the exotic SUV. The amount needed to repair the Urus could easily purchase several premium cars, such as a Mercedes-Benz E-Class or a BMW 5 Series, with money to spare. The Urus, with only 5,000 miles on the clock, used to be in impeccable condition, but that is no longer the case.

Although the crash was not the driver's fault, the rental company offered him a replacement vehicle for the remainder of the month. However, he declined the offer and decided to wait until the Urus is repaired. Given that the starting price of the Urus in the United States is $225,000, it is not the type of car an insurance company wants to see damaged. The entry-level Urus is equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 190 mph.
