Shephard Defence Insight reports that a number of European countries, including Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the UK, as well as Brazil, have signed deals or begun receiving deliveries of the JLTV. This vehicle is becoming as iconic as its predecessor, despite being in production for less than a decade.

Oshkosh was awarded the first contract for the JLTV in 2015, and in June 2023, the company announced that it had built the 20,000th vehicle. AM General, the maker of the original Humvee, was selected as a losing bidder in February 2023 and was awarded a contract worth $8.66 billion covering trailers and other support, as well as up to 20,682 vehicles.

In addition to the US Army, European countries such as Lithuania, Brazil, and Slovakia have placed orders for the JLTV. Brazil's order includes a dozen vehicles for the Marine Corps, while Slovakia's order consists of 160 vehicles. Romania has also increased its order to 129 vehicles.

The JLTV provides MRAP-level protection against IEDs and other battlefield threats. It is designed to be adaptable and can be modified to meet changing operational requirements. Oshkosh has also developed a hybrid-electric version of the JLTV, called eJLTV, which offers silent drive and extended silent watch capabilities.

After AM General was selected as the new manufacturer for the JLTV, Oshkosh lodged an appeal with the Government Accountability Office, but the appeal was rejected. AM General's production line is expected to be ready soon, with the first JLTV rolling off the line in the middle of next year. Oshkosh will continue to sell JLTV A1 vehicles through FMS or direct commercial sale and has a backlog that calls for production through 2024.

Overall, the JLTV has gained significant interest and orders from various countries, highlighting its capabilities and versatility on the battlefield.
