Shephard Defence Insight reports that a number of European countries, including Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the UK, as well as Brazil, have signed deals or begun receiving deliveries of the JLTV. The JLTV is set to become an iconic vehicle, signaling the presence of US boots or those of its allies and customers. This vehicle, which was introduced less than a decade ago, has gained significant popularity.

In 2015, Oshkosh's Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle was chosen for the JLTV program, and in June 2023, the company announced that it had produced its 20,000th vehicle. Oshkosh, AM General, and other companies competed for a recompete contract announced by the US Army in October 2021, with a potential value of up to $12 billion. In February 2023, AM General, the original maker of the Humvee, was selected as the winner of the contract, which included trailers, support, and up to 20,682 vehicles.

Oshkosh has received several production contracts since its initial win in 2015. In November 2018, the company received an order worth $1.69 billion for 6,107 JLTVs, equipment, and subsystems. In November 2020, Oshkosh was awarded a DoD contract worth $911 million, which included $23 million for the production of 59 JLTVs for Brazil, Lithuania, and North Macedonia.

Brazil, the only customer outside the northern hemisphere, ordered a dozen JLTVs for the Brazilian Marine Corps. The total value of the contract, including an integrated logistics support package, is $15.19 million. Slovakia also placed an order for 160 JLTVs, with deliveries expected in 2025. Romania increased its order from 34 to 129 JLTVs in an effort to replace its Humvees. Lithuania, an enthusiastic customer, ordered 200 vehicles in 2019 and is expected to receive an additional 300 vehicles in 2024.

The JLTV offers MRAP-level protection against IEDs and other threats, with an armored capsule that can be modified to meet changing operational requirements. Oshkosh has demonstrated the vehicle's adaptability by developing different versions, such as a C2 vehicle, a launcher for loitering munitions, and a mortar carrier. The company has also developed a hybrid-electric JLTV, called eJLTV, which provides silent drive, extended silent watch, and exportable power.

AM General was selected as the winner of the recompete contract, and Oshkosh's appeal was rejected by the Government Accountability Office. The AM General production line is expected to be ready soon, with the first JLTV rolling off it in the middle of next year. Oshkosh can continue to sell JLTV A1 vehicles through FMS or direct commercial sale and has a backlog that calls for production through 2024.
