Lotus unveils innovative e-bike with Mars Lander technology

Lotus, the car maker, has introduced a new high-performance e-bike that incorporates technology from the Mars Lander Project. The Lotus Type 136 e-bike is built on the success of the Type 108 bike used in the 1992 Barcelona Games and is handmade in Italy. It features a lightweight carbon fibre frame weighing 9.8kg and a Watt Assist Pro Motor system from High Performance System (HPS) that weighs just 1.2kg in total.

The motor itself weighs a mere 300 grams, making it one of the lightest e-bike motors on the market. The battery, cleverly disguised as a water bottle, can be easily detached from the frame with the push of a button. The Type 136 is being released as a limited first edition of only 136 bikes, each individually numbered and adorned with an iconic motorsport livery. The standard model will be available for purchase in Spring 2024.

The launch of the Lotus Type 136 e-bike has generated excitement among cycling enthusiasts. Sir Chris Hoy, a former professional cyclist, expressed his admiration for the bike and its connection to Lotus' history of innovation. Lotus CEO, Feng Qingfeng, highlighted the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation both on the road and the track. He believes that the Type 136 will help redefine people's expectations of Lotus as a brand.
