Man killed by Central Line tube train after police chase in west London

A man in west London was fatally hit by a London Underground train last night after fleeing a car following a police chase. The incident occurred in White City, where officers had been pursuing a vehicle that failed to stop. The pursued vehicle collided with another car on Du Cane Road at around 8:30pm. Several people from the pursued vehicle fled on foot, while a man in the hit car was taken to the hospital.

After the collision, a police helicopter was deployed to search for the suspects. Local residents reported hearing the helicopter above their houses. Unfortunately, the man who fled the scene was found fatally injured on the tracks near East Acton station. The Central Line train that struck him can reach an average speed of 23mph.

Detectives are currently working to establish the identity of the victim and inform his family. The police chase ended between Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital and Wormwood Scrubs prison. Witnesses near the scene reported seeing a van crashing and people jumping from a fence. The police were seen searching the railway lines throughout the night.

Residents in the area expressed their shock at the incident. Maria Kabungcal, who lives nearby, heard emergency services activity and saw the lights of the police from her garden. Another resident, Mike Hill, heard the sirens and witnessed the damaged car being towed away. He mentioned that the police were searching the railway lines all night and that there were no trains until the morning.

A cordon was put in place at the scene, but pedestrians were able to pass on the pavement. The suspension of the Central Line between Ealing Broadway and Queensway caused severe delays, with the suspension remaining in place for the rest of the evening. Service resumed at the normal time the next morning, with minor delays between East Acton and West Ruislip. By 8:30am, the line was back up and running with a good service.

A spokesperson from Transport for London (TfL) explained that the delays in the morning were due to the trains not being in their usual place overnight. The delays were unrelated to the incident itself, as the police had already left the area.

The Metropolitan Police provided a statement regarding the incident. They stated that officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Du Cane Road, but it failed to stop and collided with another car. The occupants of the suspect vehicle fled the scene, and a man from the second car was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Shortly after, the man who fled was seen close to the tracks and was struck by a train near East Acton Underground Station. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed, and investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.
