Mazda's commitment to affordable models
【Summary】Mazda Australia will not abandon affordable models despite launching more expensive vehicles. The company understands the budget constraints of buyers and aims to offer a more upmarket position without completely repositioning the brand. Mazda plans to release a new-generation replacement model for the CX-5 midsize SUV and intends to offer more choices for customers.
Mazda Australia is committed to offering more affordable models alongside its push towards a more premium brand status. Despite the recent launch of expensive models like the Mazda CX-60 and CX-90, the company understands the importance of budget constraints for buyers. Vinesh Bhindi, Mazda Australia's managing director, explained that the new "Mazda Premium" models are meant to provide something different in terms of technology, powertrain, and luxury elements, while still offering a competitive value proposition.
While Mazda aims to retain its mainstream appeal, it also plans to expand its offerings. Bhindi confirmed that a new-generation replacement model for the popular Mazda CX-5 midsize SUV is in the works. This means Mazda will soon offer a lineup that includes the CX-5, CX-60, CX-8, CX-90, and eventually the CX-80. The company wants to provide customers with more choices and fill the gaps in its product lineup.
However, there are some aging models in Mazda's more affordable range, such as the Mazda2 and the CX-3. Bhindi could not confirm if there will be new-generation replacement models for these models, but he assured that Mazda constantly updates its cars and will not abandon the affordable segment. Mazda's priorities are currently focused on the large product platform, but the next priority is the scalable architecture designed for BEV technology.
Mazda Australia strives to bring all available Mazda products to the Australian market. While some models may not be available due to right-hand-drive constraints, the company always works to make them accessible to Australians. Currently, Mazda offers 14 different models in Australia, and the CX-3 light SUV is leading the sales with a significant increase year-to-date.
