Munro Vehicles has started production on their first all-electric 4x4 vehicle, marking the first light vehicle to be manufactured in Scotland in over 40 years. The initial two customer vehicles, known as the Munro MK_1, were hand-built at the company's East Kilbride headquarters. These founder editions were designed from scratch and engineered to last for 50 years.
The first vehicle is a black truck with 220kW of power and 600Nm of torque. It has an estimated range of 190 miles and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes. The second vehicle is a pick-up model with a 280kW battery, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and a range of 190 miles.
The Munro MK_1 is an electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle that combines a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an advanced electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. It features a spacious rear bed capable of carrying a 1050kg Euro pallet payload. The performance model of the vehicle has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for various purposes such as transporting farm equipment, livestock, construction materials, and disaster relief supplies.
The Munro MK_1 comes in different variants to cater to different needs, including utility, performance, and range models. It has a peak power output of 375kW and 700Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 4.9 seconds.
Equipped with an 82.4kWh battery, the Munro MK_1 can be rapidly recharged from 15% to 80% battery capacity in just 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range of over 190 miles, enabling up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.
Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models. The company is targeting sectors such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense.
Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson expressed his pride in the engineering and passion that went into creating these remarkable all-terrain electric vehicles.
