New Generation of Volkswagen California Campervans Revealed
【Summary】Volkswagen is set to reveal the new generation of California campervans at the Caravan Salon show in Germany. The vehicle is expected to have twin sliding doors and will be based on the long Multivan. It will feature plug-in hybrid technology and smart controls. The production version is planned to be built from 2024 onwards.
The upcoming Volkswagen California campervan is set to introduce some interesting changes. The world premiere of the California Concept will take place at the Caravan Salon show in Düsseldorf, Germany. The event will run from August 25 to September 3.
While the official reveal is yet to come, Volkswagen has provided a few details to pique our interest. It has been hinted that the new vehicle will feature twin sliding doors. Images released by VW show canopies extending from both sides of the vehicle, suggesting a departure from the traditional single sliding door.
This raises questions about the interior layout of the new California. Based on the long Multivan, the Concept will retain its day-to-day functionality but will also serve as a camper. For the first time, the California will be equipped with plug-in hybrid technology, providing more flexibility for both short and long-distance driving. Additionally, it will incorporate smart technology, similar to the advanced features found in the current California 6.1.
The 6.1's touchscreen, which controls various campervan settings, will be transformed into a tablet-style screen in the Concept. This tablet format will offer enhanced smart control capabilities. VW Commercial Vehicles emphasizes that the California is not just a camper van, but a way of life and a symbol of freedom.
With over 260,000 units sold to date, the California has become the most successful campervan of all time. One distinctive feature that all California models share is the pop-up roof. The California Concept will continue this tradition and will be showcased with a pop-up roof at the Düsseldorf event.
Volkswagen plans to begin production of the new generation California at their plant in Hanover starting in 2024. The company aims to build upon the success of the previous models and offer an even more innovative and versatile campervan.
