Nikola recalls delivered trucks for fire risk.
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks due to a coolant leak inside the battery pack causing fires. The company is suspending sales and contacting all parties involved. The investigation found that foul play or external factors were unlikely to be the cause.
Nikola Corp. announced on Friday that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales. This decision comes after an investigation into recent fires revealed a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause.
The company has a total of 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. Nikola is in the process of recalling these vehicles and is actively contacting all parties involved, according to a spokesperson for the company.
The preliminary findings of the investigation were confirmed on Thursday when a "minor thermal incident" occurred on one of the battery packs in a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Nikola stated that foul play or external factors were unlikely to be the cause of the incident. The company is now working on providing a remedy for the issue.
In June, when trucks at the company's Phoenix, Arizona headquarters caught fire, Nikola initially suspected foul play. One of the damaged trucks, which was being kept at the Phoenix site for monitoring, re-ignited last month.
