A tragic incident occurred at the US-Canada border in Niagara Falls, where a car explosion claimed the lives of a New York businessman and his wife. The driver, a 56-year-old man, was behind the wheel of a $300,000 Bentley when the car crashed into the US checkpoint and burst into flames.
Prior to the incident, the couple had briefly visited the Seneca Niagara casino resort. It is believed that they were not regular visitors and had only stopped there briefly, possibly to exchange money. The resort has been cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation into the incident.
The couple had plans to attend a Kiss concert in Canada. The man, who hailed from a well-known family in Grand Isle, New York, reportedly had a medical issue. The explosion resulted in the closure of the Rainbow Bridge, a significant travel route, just before Thanksgiving.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul addressed the incident in a press conference, expressing relief that there were no further injuries. She emphasized that there was no evidence of terrorism and referred to the incident as a "horrific incident" rather than an accident.
