Nikola's Recall of Delivered Trucks for Fire Risk
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks due to a coolant leak causing recent fires. The company is suspending sales and contacting all parties. Preliminary findings suggest no foul play or external factors were involved in the incidents. Efforts are underway to provide a remedy.
Nikola Corp. has announced that it will be recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales. This decision comes after an investigation into recent fires revealed a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause.
The company has identified a total of 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. Nikola is currently in the process of recalling these vehicles and is reaching out to all parties involved, according to a spokesperson for the company.
The findings of the investigation were supported by a "minor thermal incident" on one pack of a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Nikola stated that the incident was unlikely to have been caused by foul play or external factors. The company is now working to find a solution to the issue.
In June, when trucks at the company's headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona caught fire, Nikola initially suspected foul play. One damaged truck, which was being kept at the site for monitoring, re-ignited last month.
