Peugeot E-308 SW: A Polished Electric Wagon

The Peugeot E-308 SW is a well-resolved and practical EV with a premium finish. It is one of the best electric load-luggers available in the market. The Peugeot 308 was one of the first family hatchbacks to have an all-electric version, and now the estate variant has joined the lineup as well. Currently, there are no obvious rivals for the E-308 SW, apart from the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer and the MG5. However, more expensive zero-emissions wagons are expected to arrive in the next 18 months.

The ride comfort of the E-308 SW is not compromised, with a good mix of compliance and composure. The performance is brisk, but not rapid, as the more powerful motor defaults back to a previous output in the normal mode. To experience the full power, the car needs to be switched to Sport mode. The powertrain responds better to a smooth approach rather than aggressive driving. Overall, the E-308 SW feels more like a combustion-engined car in terms of power delivery.

The E-308 SW comes in different trims, such as Allure and GT. The GT version offers additional features like matrix-LED headlights, sports seats finished in Alcantara, and a fancier dashboard with a projection-based 3D display. However, the additional tech may not be worth the extra cost. The interface on the screen is clear, but the animated transitions between screens seem to hide lag rather than enhance usability.

The rear cabin of the E-308 SW offers generous knee and legroom, although taller passengers may find it challenging to get in and out due to the rakish roofline. The boot capacity is 548 litres, which can be expanded to 1,574 litres by lowering the rear seats. The boot has a low lip, making it easy to load heavy items. The UK prices for the E-308 SW are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to cost around £1,000 more than the equivalent hatchback version.

The Peugeot E-308 SW GT 54KWH 156 has a 54kWh battery and a single e-motor. It has a power output of 154bhp and 270Nm of torque. The transmission is a single-speed auto, and it is a front-wheel drive. The estimated 0-62mph acceleration is 9.3 seconds, with a top speed of 93mph. The range is expected to be up to 248 miles, and it can be charged at a rate of 100kW, reaching 20-80% in 25 minutes.
