Polestar 5 vs Porsche Taycan: Specs, Release Date, and Full Details

Polestar has revealed new details about its upcoming Polestar 5 electric vehicle. The car features a split 'Thor's hammer' headlight design, with the front end showcasing Polestar's 'SmartZone', a body-colored panel that hides the sensors for the car's autonomous driver assist systems. The front wheel arches flare outwards and the front air intake has a dark surround that flows around the entire perimeter of the car. The rear of the Polestar 5 is where the designers have taken more creative freedom, with a distinctive tail-light bar that runs the width of the tailgate. The car also does not have a rear window, instead utilizing side mirrors and a rear-facing camera for visibility.

Inside, the Polestar 5's cabin is similar to that of the Precept concept car, featuring a large central touchscreen and a steering wheel design similar to the Precept. The car is around 4.7 meters long with a 3.1-meter wheelbase, providing ample space for rear seat occupants. The use of recycled and plant-sourced materials is a priority for Polestar, as the company aims to create a carbon-neutral car by 2030. The car is expected to have a dual-motor electric powertrain with 874bhp and 900Nm of torque, offering engaging driving dynamics.

The Polestar 5 is built on a bespoke bonded aluminum platform, engineered in the UK. It is likely to have a range of around 500km (310 miles) and will prioritize fast recharging over maximum range. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath emphasized the importance of making a sustainable car rather than focusing solely on range figures. The Polestar 5 is set to be a premium electric sports car that combines performance and sustainability.
