Rolls-Royce Droptail Limited to Four Units

The Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division has recently revealed its latest creation, the Droptail, during Monterey Car Week. This exclusive vehicle is limited to only four units worldwide, with the first one, named La Rose Noire, being showcased in California.

The design of the La Rose Noire Droptail draws inspiration from the Black Baccara, a French rose that holds sentimental value for the family who commissioned the car. Its exterior is coated in a unique red finish that appears black in the shade but has a pearlescent red glow under the sunlight. Rolls-Royce achieved this special paint by combining two shades of red called True Love and Mystery.

Unlike the Rolls-Royce Sweptail and Boat Tail, the Droptail does not share the same Architecture of Luxury platform as the Cullinan, Ghost, and Phantom. Instead, it features a new monocoque chassis made from a combination of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber. Despite the updated underpinnings, the Droptail is powered by Rolls-Royce's 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, producing 593 horsepower and 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque. Although this car is not focused on straight-line performance, it is estimated to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 5.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The Droptail stands out from other Rolls-Royce models with its unique exterior design. The front end features a large chrome grille and slim LED headlights, while the bodywork showcases a smooth and flowing design along the sides. The rear end is distinguished by a set of taillights that are unlike any seen from the brand before. Additionally, the Droptail is equipped with a stylish spoiler and an eye-catching decklid. It even includes a removable roof panel made from carbon fiber with electrochromic panels.

Described as the "most remarkable element" of the car, the interior of the Droptail took nearly two years to perfect. It is adorned with complex artwork that represents falling rose petals, meticulously crafted from 1,603 pieces of black wood veneer. The seats are enveloped in a combination of True Love red and Mystery red leather. Positioned in the center of the dashboard is a custom timepiece by Audemars Piguet, featuring a 43 mm chronograph with red counters and a red inner bezel. The timepiece can be detached at the press of a button and worn with a strap.

In addition to the remarkable car, the family that commissioned it also ordered a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce Champagne Chest to complement the vehicle. This chest can be opened with the press of a button and contains hand-blown crystal champagne flutes and a serving tray.

While Rolls-Royce has not disclosed the price of each Droptail model, sources estimate that they will cost around $25 million each.
