Small Sports Car (SSC), a Chinese start-up, has unveiled its first-ever car, the SC-01, an electric two-seat coupé that aims to become China's "national sports car". Priced at around ¥300,000 (approximately £39,000), the sleek EV is set to hit the market later this year. Measuring 4085mm long, 1820mm wide, and 1162mm tall, the SC-01 is comparable in size to the petrol-engined Alpine A110 and Audi TT.
The SC-01 boasts a mid-mounted battery located behind the driver cabin, along with electric motors at the front and rear. With a total power output of 429bhp, the car can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, promising an exhilarating driving experience. The battery's positioning not only contributes to weight distribution but also lowers the car's height and reduces wind resistance.
According to SSC, the SC-01 offers a range of 310 miles (500km) on the NEDC test cycle, although figures using the WLTP system have not been disclosed. The car features a spaceframe chassis with horizontal, pushrod-driven shock absorbers, ensuring improved rigidity while maintaining a compact design.
While the interior of the SC-01 has not yet been revealed, SSC describes it as "minimalist" with no infotainment screen. Instead, all controls are operated through traditional switches and buttons, emphasizing a more focused and driver-centric experience.
