The MG4 is a small electric car that competes with well-known rivals such as Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, and Volkswagen. Despite its budget-friendly nature, it offers more than just affordability. The MG4 provides a good driving experience, a decent electric range, and comfortable features. If you're in search of a stylish small car with low running costs, the MG4 is definitely worth considering.

MG's first ground-up electric car, the MG4, is built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which will also be used for other MG EVs like the MG Cyberster. The MG4 is available with three different battery sizes and four power outputs. The range includes models with rear-wheel drive and a 168bhp motor, as well as performance-oriented models with four-wheel drive and 429bhp.

The electric driving range of the MG4 varies depending on the model and battery size. It ranges from 218 miles for the 51kWh SE to 323 miles for the 77kWh Extended Range. All versions of the MG4 have rapid-charging capability, allowing for quick top-ups during longer journeys.

The standard equipment on the MG4 is generous, with features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Higher-spec Trophy models come with additional luxuries like heated seats, wireless smartphone charging, and an upgraded audio system. The range-topping XPower model includes all the goodies from the Trophy model, along with distinctive 18-inch alloys and larger brakes for enhanced performance.

In terms of value, the MG4 is a compelling option, especially the SE Long Range model. It offers everything you need, along with a respectable electric range.

The MG4 is highly regarded as one of the best electric cars available today. It offers a generous amount of equipment, a decent range for its price, and surprising driving enjoyment. The real-world range of the MG4 depends on the battery capacity, but the long-term MG4 Long Range with a 64kWh battery pack provides a realistic range of 230-240 miles with an average efficiency of 3.8mi/kWh.

As for reliability, it's too early to determine the MG4's long-term reliability. However, electric cars in general tend to be more reliable than traditional petrol or diesel-powered cars. The MG4 also comes with a seven-year warranty for added peace of mind.

MG is a renowned British brand that was previously part of the MG Rover Group. After the group's bankruptcy in 2005, the brand is now owned by Chinese parent company SAIC Motor. MG has a rich history of producing sports cars like the MGB.
