Skoda Kodiaq interior updates and prototype analysis

The all-new Skoda Kodiaq is set to arrive later in 2023, and the Czech brand has released images of its redesigned interior and new features. The interior of the Kodiaq has a striking new look, with a relocated gear selector that provides more space for a spacious centre console. It also features a large 13-inch infotainment screen with Skoda's new Smart Dials, which combine physical dials with digital controls. The upcoming Kodiaq is expected to be slightly larger than the outgoing model, with a larger 910-litre boot.

The second-generation Kodiaq will be based on a modified version of the Mk8 Golf's MQB Evo underpinnings. Skoda has confirmed that the upcoming model will be offered as a plug-in hybrid variant in 2024, along with a range of mild-hybrid, diesel, and petrol models. However, a full-electric Kodiaq is not expected. The new Kodiaq's interior features a large dashboard and sustainable materials, such as 100% recycled polyester and eco leather. It also includes innovative features like Smart Dials and a 13-inch infotainment screen.

The new Kodiaq is expected to have a higher starting price than the outgoing model, but it will still offer good value for money compared to competitors like the Peugeot 5008 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. Skoda plans to fully reveal the Kodiaq in autumn 2023, alongside the all-new Skoda Superb. Safety features such as Emergency Assist, Traffic Assist, and lane departure control will be included, and remote parking assist will allow for easier parking in tight spaces.

Recently, a late-stage prototype of the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq was driven, giving an idea of how the family SUV is shaping up. The prototype was a front-wheel drive mild-hybrid version, and it felt similar to drive as the outgoing model. The engine performed well, and the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox was smooth and quick. Skoda expects the majority of sales for the Kodiaq to be the 1.5-litre petrol model.
