Skoda Superb ready to outshine VW Passat

Skoda is preparing to unveil its all-new Superb on November 2nd. The Superb will be available as both an estate and a hatchback, giving it a wider appeal than its closely related counterpart, the new Passat. It is expected to go on sale in early 2024, joining the recently unveiled second-generation Kodiaq SUV. The Superb will borrow technology and design elements from its SUV sibling.

The exterior design of the Superb Estate features a three-dimensional grille, thinner headlights with new-generation LED technology, and a new lower grille shape. The side view reveals a generous rear overhang, a sharp crease on the flanks, and a restrained bumper design. The rear light unit is similar to that of the new Fabia, creating a dynamic light graphic. The hatchback retains its overall proportion and a long, heavily raked rear screen. The clamshell bonnet helps balance out the silhouette of the car.

Inside, the Superb boasts a new dashboard layout with a larger 13-inch infotainment display and a fully digital 10-inch instrument cluster. Skoda has introduced physical knobs, called Skoda Smart Dials, to control various interior functions. The gear selector has been relocated to the steering column, creating extra storage space on the center console. The dashboard design features integrated air vents and sustainable materials. The car also retains Skoda's signature 'Simply Clever' features, such as hidden umbrellas in the door panels.

The new Superb is built on a revised version of the MQB evo platform and features a slightly increased length and wheelbase, resulting in more interior space. The Superb Estate offers a boot space of 690 liters. The car will be powered by the latest generation of combustion engines from the VW Group, including two 2.0-liter diesel options and three petrol options. There is also a plug-in hybrid version with a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine and a 25.7kWh battery, offering a pure-electric range of over 62 miles.

Overall, the new Skoda Superb combines impressive design, advanced technology, and spaciousness, making it a compelling option in the family car segment.
