Two American tourists were discovered sleeping inside the Eiffel Tower after a night of partying in Paris, according to officials. The security guards, who were conducting their morning rounds, stumbled upon the sleeping duo and woke them up. The tourists were found in an area of the tower that is typically closed to the public, between the second and third levels. Paris prosecutors stated that the men appeared to have become stuck due to their extreme intoxication.
The visitors had purchased entry tickets to the Eiffel Tower on Sunday evening and then proceeded to climb down the stairs from the top platform, which is 905 feet in the air, by jumping security barriers. Paris firefighters, including a specialized unit for rescuing people from dangerous heights, were called to assist in bringing the intoxicated tourists down safely. Both men were later taken to the police station for questioning.
The Eiffel Tower operator, Sete, has stated that they plan to file a criminal complaint against the intruders. As a result of the incident, the opening of the tower to the public was delayed by approximately an hour. This incident occurred just two days after the evacuation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Paris due to bomb threats.
