JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover) has announced plans to introduce a new fleet of bio-fuelled lorries across the UK in April 2024. This move is aimed at significantly reducing the company's carbon emissions from road freight.

The introduction of 220 more sustainable HGVs is expected to have a major impact on JLR's road-freight CO2 output. Out of these 220 lorries, 219 will run on biofuels, while one will be battery-electric. The company estimates that this switch will result in an impressive 84% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The bio-fuelled HGVs will utilize a combination of bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and hydrogenated vegetable oil. This combination will bring about a minimum CO2 saving of 85% per lorry. Additionally, the use of hydrogenated vegetable oil will help reduce the emissions of JLR's existing lorries.

In addition to transitioning to new fuels, JLR will also be making a change in the size of their lorries. They will switch to using 15.6-metre lorries, which will further contribute to reducing their carbon footprint in road freight operations.
