Sustainable lorry fleet to be introduced by Jaguar Land Rover in the UK

JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover) has announced plans to introduce a new fleet of bio-fuelled lorries across the UK in April 2024. This move is part of the company's efforts to reduce its carbon emissions from road freight.

The new fleet will consist of 220 more sustainable HGVs, with 219 running on biofuels and one being battery-electric. JLR estimates that this switch will result in an 84% reduction in its road-freight CO2 output, cutting down 8433 tonnes of emissions.

The bio-fuelled HGVs will use a combination of bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and hydrogenated vegetable oil. This combination will bring a minimum CO2 saving of 85% per lorry. Additionally, hydrogenated vegetable oil will be used to reduce the emissions of the existing lorries.

Alongside the transition to new fuels, JLR will also make a change in the size of their lorries. They will switch to using 15.6-metre lorries, which is expected to further contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.
