Japan's Suzuki Motor is planning to export electric vehicles (EVs) made at its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant to Japan by 2025, according to a report by the Nikkei daily. The company aims to establish India as its global electric car manufacturing hub and is also considering supplying India-made EVs to partner Toyota Motor for European markets. The report states that if Suzuki decides to supply to Toyota, the EVs will be sold under the Toyota brand.

Last year, Suzuki Motor announced a significant investment of Rs 10,440 crore in India to manufacture electric vehicles and batteries. A portion of this investment, Rs 3100 crore, will be used to increase manufacturing capacity for electric vehicles at Suzuki Motor Gujarat by 2025. Another Rs 7300 crore will be allocated for setting up a plant to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles by 2026. The remaining resources will be utilized to establish a vehicle recycling plant by Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu in 2025.

In addition to these plans, Suzuki Motor Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State of Gujarat to further strengthen its presence in India. The MoU was signed during the India-Japan Economic Forum held in New Delhi, in the presence of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
