Swedish EV makers target intelligent driving in China
【Summary】Swedish EV makers, like Polestar, are targeting the Chinese market for their premium electric vehicles. Polestar has partnered with Mobileye to incorporate autonomous driving technology into their Polestar 4 model. The technology will offer hands-free, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways.
In recent years, there has been a growing focus from Swedish electric vehicle (EV) makers on China's premium EV car market. Similarly, Chinese automobile makers like Hongqi have chosen Sweden, Norway, and other Northern European countries as their first destinations to establish R&D facilities and promote their new electric vehicle brands in the European markets.
At the 26th edition of the Chengdu Motor Show, the largest annual auto show in western China, Polestar, a Swedish premium EV maker, announced a partnership with Mobileye. The collaboration aims to incorporate Mobileye's Chauffeur autonomous driving technology into Polestar's upcoming model, the Polestar 4.
During the Chengdu Motor Show, Polestar showcased two of its electric SUV models: the Polestar 4, a pure electric high-performance SUV, and the Polestar 3, an ultra-luxury pure electric SUV. The Polestar 4, being the first production car to feature Mobileye's Chauffeur autonomous driving technology, sets the foundation for this advanced technology by utilizing Mobileye SuperVision-based ADAS from the beginning.
Mobileye is a leading producer of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technology, which is already integrated into over 150 million cars worldwide. Their Chauffeur technology, expected to be introduced in the coming years, aims to provide hands-free, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways, combined with eyes-on automated driving for various environments.
