Tesla Giga Berlin EV Production Drops Below 4,000 per Week

The production output of Tesla's German Gigafactory near Berlin has reportedly decreased to less than 4,000 units per week, according to internal documents and anonymous sources cited by Business Insider.

Reuters quotes the report, stating that the production milestone of 5,000 units achieved in March was a one-time occurrence. Since then, Tesla has gradually reduced the production target of its Berlin-Brandenburg facility to 4,350 cars per week in July and August, with further reductions expected in the coming weeks.

Business Insider reveals that pictures of Tesla's internal workflow software indicate that the production target for July and August had been adjusted to 870 cars per day. However, there were days when the output fell below this target, with only 692 cars produced on July 25 and 806 on July 28.

According to unnamed workers at the plant, the internal target was subsequently lowered to 750 cars per day, resulting in a weekly output of 3,750 units.

Tesla currently assembles the Model Y electric crossover in Germany. After achieving the production milestone of 5,000 units per week, the company had planned to add a third shift in April and potentially a fourth shift to double production. However, Reuters reported two months later that Tesla would reduce Saturday shifts and hire fewer temporary workers, while still aiming to meet its self-imposed production targets.

In Germany, the base rear-wheel drive Model Y starts at €44,890 or approximately $48,700, while the Long Range all-wheel drive variant is priced from €54,990 or about $59,700, including VAT. In comparison, a Model Y Long Range in the United States starts at $50,490.
