Tesla is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its first Supercharger station in Europe by offering free charging on all electric vehicles today. This initiative allows all EV owners, not just those with Teslas, to charge their cars for free on 29 August from 8am until the end of the day. However, it is important to note that charging must start by 10.59pm.

The first Supercharger station in Europe opened in Norway on 29 August 2013. Over the past decade, the Supercharger network has expanded to 36 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with over a thousand sites and 13,000 individual Superchargers. With more than 9,200 Superchargers and 660 stations currently accepting all EVs, Tesla claims to have the largest ultra-fast charging network in Europe.

Tesla describes this one-day-only free charging initiative as part of its 'electric summer' celebrations and a token of appreciation to the Tesla community. The company acknowledges that the community has contributed to making the Supercharger network the largest, most reliable, and one of the best fast charging networks in Europe.

By opening up the network of rapid charging devices to drivers of all electric cars, Tesla aims to provide a great opportunity to test the network and expand charging options. Over 70% of the network is now open to all EVs. Just days before this initiative, Tesla launched its latest V4 Supercharger in the UK, specifically designed for all electric vehicles with CCS compatibility.

The first V4 Supercharger, located at the Tesla Centre Tottenham, opened to the public last week. It features a three-meter charging cable and a contactless card payment terminal. These V4 Superchargers are designed to allow non-Tesla owners to enjoy the 99.5% uptime and 250kW speeds of the Tesla Supercharger network.

James Court, chief executive of Electric Vehicles Association, expressed excitement about the rollout of the new V4 Superchargers and the continued opening up of existing sites to all electric vehicles in the UK. He believes that this is a great benefit to all EV drivers, given the widespread coverage and reliability of the Supercharger network.

Decarbonisation Minister Jesse Norman praised Tesla's investment in EV charging and infrastructure, stating that it will benefit all EV drivers. He emphasized that the government is making it easier than ever to own an electric vehicle and that private investment, like Tesla's, will ultimately make the difference in transitioning to a prosperous green economy.
