Tokyo Mobility Show 2023 highlights

Flying cars, wacky concepts, and mad inventions took center stage at this year's Tokyo Mobility Show 2023. Held at the Tokyo Big Sight events center, the show opened its doors to the world's press on October 25. Known for its crazy concepts and bonkers ideas, this year's show did not disappoint.
One of the main highlights of the show was the display of flying cars. Subaru showcased its Air Mobility Concept, a drone-like model that uses five electric turbines. The car manufacturer, known for building helicopters, revealed that its aerospace and automotive engineers are already working on the flying car concept.
Another flying mobility solution on display was the Skydrive, a quad-rotor prototype. Skydrive's model is already on sale for around $1.5 million and is expected to have its first deliveries in 2026. The company has already taken orders and expects the flying car to be fully autonomous by 2035.
Aside from flying cars, other firms showcased equally wacky concepts. IAT presented the T Mad, a pick-up truck with swiveling seats and a top speed of 200kph. THK displayed the LSR-05, a car with motors in the rear wheels and wireless charging capability. Turing Alpha, named after Alan Turing, aims to overtake Tesla with its autonomous driving sports car. Honda showcased the Uni-One, a mobility concept designed for assisting people in shopping centers and airports. Toyota presented the Gusei Felsby Concept, a K-car sized concept that features an umbrella-style solar panel for recharging. AIM EV Micro 01, a tiny car designed for a new category between motorcycles and K-cars, was also on display.
In addition to these futuristic concepts, traditional car manufacturers also showcased their ideas for the future. Nissan unveiled the Hyper Force concept, a 1,341bhp solid state monster that offers the ultimate driving pleasure. Toyota presented the FT-Se sports EV concept, the first electric car from the GR sub-brand. Mazda showcased the Iconic SP, a rotary electric sports car. Daihatsu presented the Osanpo, an electric car concept. Yamaha displayed the Tricera, a three-wheeler trike with a rear-wheel-steering system. BMW unveiled the new X2 and the electric iX2, designed to appeal to younger car buyers. Lexus showcased two concept cars, the LF-ZC and the LF-ZL, both offering unique features and designs.
The Tokyo Mobility Show 2023 was a platform for showcasing the wildest and most innovative ideas in the automotive industry. From flying cars to futuristic concepts, the show provided a glimpse into the future of transportation.
