Toyota Prius UK arrival confirmed

In a surprising turn of events, Toyota has announced that the latest Prius hybrid will indeed be coming to the UK, despite previous reports stating otherwise. The car, which was unveiled in November 2022, has already been available in other markets since the spring.

Initially, Toyota had cited decreased demand as the reason for not bringing the new model to the UK. The popularity of the C-HR and Corolla, which offered similar powertrains to the Prius, had encroached on sales for the mid-size family car. The Corolla, in particular, had been stealing sales from the Prius in recent years.

Despite these challenges, the latest Prius continues to offer plug-in hybrid and 'Series Parallel Hybrid' powertrains, with impressive fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The car boasts up to 217mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 29g/km.

Visually, the new Prius features a sleeker exterior design, taking inspiration from Toyota's upcoming bZ range of electric cars. The interior has also been revamped, with a larger touchscreen and technology borrowed from the all-electric bZ4X.

While pricing and specifications for the UK market have not yet been revealed, in Europe, the Prius is priced between €45,000 and €50,000. If this price range translates to the UK market, the Prius would be significantly more expensive than the Corolla, which starts at £30,225.
