Toyota recalls 168K vehicles due to fire hazard

Japanese automotive giant Toyota has announced a recall of approximately 168,000 vehicles in the US due to a potential fire risk. The affected vehicles are certain 2022 and 2023 model-year Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles.

In a recall notice, Toyota stated that the vehicles in question are equipped with a plastic fuel tube that could rub against a brake line, leading to a fuel leak. This fuel leak, if exposed to an ignition source, could increase the risk of fire.

To address this issue, Toyota will replace the fuel tube with an improved part and additional clamps at no cost to customers. The automaker is currently preparing the remedy parts for the recall.

As a temporary measure, affected customers will receive free installation of protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube until the final remedy parts become available.

Toyota plans to notify all affected owners about this issue by early October 2023.

Last year, a total of 102,169 units of 52 different models were voluntarily recalled by eight automakers, including Toyota. The recalls were initiated to address various faulty components.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported that the recalls involved issues such as a faulty assistant heating system in Kia's Sorento SUV, a faulty transmission system in Ford's Fusion sedan, and software problems in the Audi A6 Premium 45 TFSI quattro sedan imported by Volkswagen Group Korea.
