Toyota's FT-Se Sports Car Concept Set for Potential 2027 Production
【Summary】Toyota's FT-Se sports car concept may go into production in 2027. The car is expected to use Toyota's next-generation liquid-electrolyte batteries with a range of up to 500 miles, offering reduced weight and lower production costs. Toyota's CEO has expressed interest in expanding their lineup of GR-badged sports cars, making it likely that the FT-Se will be produced. The concept's exterior design is well-resolved, and if it remains unchanged, it is expected to generate significant interest.
The LF-ZC's expected arrival in 2026 indicates that it will utilize Toyota's next-generation liquid-electrolyte batteries, which will offer an impressive range of up to 500 miles. These new batteries are not only lighter but also expected to be 20% cheaper to produce compared to the battery found in the Toyota bZ4X. This makes them an ideal fit for the FT-Se, a small sports car that prioritizes keeping its weight low.
There are several indications that the FT-Se is likely to make it into production. Earlier this year, Toyota CEO Koji Sato expressed his desire to expand the company's lineup of GR-badged sports cars, which currently includes models like the GR86 and GR Supra.
"The Gazoo brand will have a significant presence in the future - and perhaps we can even accelerate its growth," he stated.
Among the various new Toyota concepts, such as the FT-3e and Land Cruiser Se, the FT-Se appears to be the closest to being production-ready. Its exterior design is well-refined, and although the cabin may undergo some changes for production, it's hard to imagine the car not generating interest if it were to appear in showrooms exactly as it is now.
