UK summer verdict August weather

Today's hot spell could be the last opportunity for sunseekers to enjoy the summer warmth on the beaches. According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to reach the late 20s in some areas before autumn arrives and brings a drop in temperatures. Although showers are predicted over the last bank holiday weekend, there will still be plenty of dry and bright weather to hold onto some warmth.

However, Scotland and Northern Ireland can expect unsettled conditions due to an area of low pressure. Fortunately, a ridge of high pressure is expected to keep things relatively quiet for today. While London and eastern England can enjoy pleasant temperatures of 25C, the north of England and Scotland will only reach the late teens.

Tomorrow, showers are expected to cover much of the UK, including the south east of England and London. Although temperatures will be lower for the next few weeks, the Met Office suggests that the hurricane season in the Atlantic could bring warmer and drier weather to our shores before autumn fully sets in.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst explains that today will be dry with sunny spells, especially in the east and south of the country. Highs of 27C are expected today, but by Friday, temperatures will drop to highs of 23C. Despite the cooler bank holiday, the weather is expected to be drier on Sunday and Monday, making it a better weekend compared to previous ones. Dewhurst also mentions that although the trends indicate lower temperatures for the next few weeks, it is possible for the current warm spell to be the last of the year. However, as the active part of the hurricane season approaches, storms in the Atlantic could potentially bring drier and warmer conditions.
