Summer's End

A hot spell is expected to hit the country this week, but it could be the last one for the year. The Met Office predicts that temperatures will reach the late 20s in some areas before cooling down and giving way to unsettled conditions for the bank holiday weekend. Forecasters are also expecting a "mixed picture" for the weekend, with temperatures returning to normal levels.

According to Sky News meteorologist Chris England, the weekend is expected to be rather cool and unsettled. He mentions that there will be a north to north-westerly wind bringing showers or longer spells of rain, although East Anglia and the south-east will likely remain dry with some sunny spells. England also states that another heatwave is not expected for September.

The warm weather is anticipated to end as the UK approaches August 31, which marks the last day of meteorological summer. The Met Office forecasts temperatures in the low 20s for southern regions and high teens for northern areas during the weekend. While rain is expected in many parts of the country, there should still be plenty of dry and bright weather to enjoy the last bank holiday before Christmas.

Although temperatures are expected to be lower in the coming weeks, the Met Office suggests that the hurricane season in the Atlantic could bring warmer and drier weather to UK shores before autumn arrives. Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst explains that there will be dry weather with sunny spells in the east and south of the country, with highs of 27C. By Friday, temperatures will reach highs of 23C. Dewhurst believes it will be a cooler bank holiday, but with drier weather on Sunday and Monday, making it a better weekend overall.

Meteorologist Craig Snell from the Met Office describes the bank holiday weather as a "changeable picture." He points out that temperatures will vary depending on the region, with the south experiencing temperatures in the low 20s and possibly reaching 22C in London, while the north will see temperatures in the high teens. Snell mentions that there are currently no signs of extremely dry or wet conditions, and different areas will have their best days on either Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. However, there should be plenty of dry and bright weather to make the most of the bank holiday.
