Unaware residents discover massive fire engulfing building

Residents of a building in east London were unaware that a fire was raging through their roof due to a malfunctioning alarm, according to claims. The incident occurred at a seven-storey business center in Fairfield Road, Bow, on Friday evening. Approximately 100 firefighters were on the scene, battling the blaze as thick black smoke and flames billowed into the air. The fire caused significant damage to the roof, and residents were informed that they may not be allowed back into the building until Sunday.

A resident named Drew, who witnessed the incident, described the moment he realized his building was on fire. He had been standing at the police cordon for three hours when he noticed smoke outside his window. He immediately called the fire service and rushed downstairs to ensure the building was evacuated. However, he noticed that the fire alarm was not going off, leaving the residents on the upper floors unaware of the danger. Drew quickly alerted the fire warden and proceeded to run back upstairs, grabbing his belongings and alerting his neighbors to the fire.

Outside the police cordon, a small group of residents, including a man holding a cat, stood anxiously awaiting updates. A neighbor from an adjoining building recounted his experience, stating that he was working at his desk when a neighbor alerted him to the billowing smoke and flames coming from the roof. Realizing that the top floors were residential, he expressed concern for the safety of those living there. The fire engines arrived promptly, and firefighters swiftly began tackling the blaze as heavy rain started to pour.

Firefighters utilized water towers to combat the fire, while the cause of the incident remains under investigation. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported thus far.
