2023 Electric Car Awards Unveil UK's Best EVs and Hybrids

The 2023 What Car? Electric Car Awards showcased the UK's top new and used electric cars (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

Among the most successful brands at the awards were BMW, MG, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen. Each of these brands won three What Car? Electric Car Awards in both the new and used car categories.

This year, three cars stood out as the most successful models. The MG 5 EV, Porsche Taycan, and Tesla Model 3 each won two awards.

The MG 5 was recognized as the Best electric estate car in both the new and used car categories. The Porsche Taycan won the title of Best new and used performance car, while the Tesla Model 3 was named Best new and used executive car.

Another notable winner was the Volkswagen ID Buzz, which not only won the overall What Car? Car of the Year award in January but also claimed the title of Best electric MPV at the Electric Car Awards. Volkswagen also secured awards for Best used electric family car (ID 3) and Best used hybrid estate car (Passat GTE).

For those seeking affordability, the MG 4 EV SE emerged as the most affordable new electric or hybrid winner at the 2023 What Car? Electric Car Awards. This model is currently available for £26,397 through What Car?'s free online New Car Buying service.

The Reader Award, determined by a public vote on What Car?'s social media channels, was won by the Renault 5 electric hatchback. Voters were asked to choose the most exciting upcoming electric model from a shortlist of 12 cars.
