2023 Lexus RZ Falls Just Shy of a Home Run

Lexus appears to be less enthusiastic about the shift towards battery-powered electric vehicles compared to other brands, and this sentiment is reflected in their latest offering, the Lexus RZ. The RZ is the luxury brand's first foray into the electric vehicle market and shares the same e-TNGA platform as the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra.

While the RZ shares design elements with the Lexus RX, it is smaller in size and falls into the compact class. Despite its smaller stature, the RZ boasts an ample horsepower of 308 ponies. However, its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery only provides a driving range of at least 196 miles, with a maximum range of 220 miles.

Although the driving range of the RZ may seem limited in comparison to other electric vehicles in 2023, it's important to note that many EV drivers often carry around more battery weight than necessary. Therefore, the RZ's range may still be sufficient for many drivers. However, there are some concerns that give us pause when considering recommending the RZ.

Despite these concerns, there are numerous advantages to the Lexus RZ. It offers a delightful ride quality and boasts an excellent interior in both trim levels. These factors, combined with its unique design language and the prestige associated with the Lexus brand, may make the RZ the perfect electric vehicle for certain individuals.
