2023 Lexus RZ Falls Just Shy Of a Home Run

Lexus appears to be less enthusiastic about the shift towards battery-powered electric vehicles compared to other brands, and this sentiment is reflected in their latest offering. The Lexus RZ is the luxury brand's first electric vehicle, utilizing the same e-TNGA platform as the battery-electric Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. While the RZ shares design elements with the Lexus RX, it is smaller in size and falls into the compact class.

With an impressive 308 horsepower, the RZ certainly doesn't lack power. However, its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery only provides a driving range of at least 196 miles, with a maximum range of 220 miles. In today's EV market, this range may be considered relatively limited for a vehicle released in 2023. Nonetheless, it's worth noting that many electric vehicle drivers often carry around more battery capacity than they actually require.

Despite its range limitations, there are several positive aspects to consider when evaluating the Lexus RZ. Both trim levels offer a delightful ride quality and boast an excellent interior. These factors alone make the RZ an appealing choice for potential buyers. While there may be some reservations about recommending the RZ, it could still be the right electric vehicle for certain individuals.
