A comprehensive assessment was conducted to determine the most popular used car models in the U.K. The study focused on 29 popular car brands based on the frequency of vehicle registrations. For each brand, the top five most searched-for models were considered, resulting in 145 car models. Yearly Google search data for each model was collected and ranked.
Ford emerges as the most searched-for car brand, followed by Audi and BMW. This finding comes from a review conducted by car finance refund firm Undisclosed.co.uk. They evaluated the number of yearly searches for 145 models of used cars across 29 brands to identify the most searched-for brand.
The Sportage, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is the most Googled used car in 38 out of 58 analyzed UK cities, including Birmingham, Glasgow, and Liverpool.
The Nissan Qashqai secures second place, with 29,230 searches for 'used Nissan Qashqai' across the UK each year. This Japanese car dominates as the most searched-for used car in eight cities, including Leicester, Newcastle, and Portsmouth. The latest Qashqai model in Europe incorporates Nissan's e-POWER technology, appealing to those aiming to reduce emissions.
The Ford Fiesta takes third place, with approximately 28,380 searches each year for the term 'used Ford Fiesta.' Despite production of this model ceasing in July after 47 years and eight generations, it remains a popular choice in the used car market due to its reliability.
According to data from the U.K. government in Q4 2022, the Fiesta was the most registered car on UK roads. The BMW 1 Series secures the fourth spot, with around 23,640 yearly searches. This German car model, part of the BMW group, appears in the top five used car searches for Derby, Southampton, and Manchester.
In fifth place is the Audi A1, with approximately 22,870 yearly searches for 'used Audi A1.' The German car company's reputation for quality and the A1's compact yet premium appeal have made it a favorite among UK drivers.
The Volvo XC40 takes sixth place, with around 21,610 searches each year. This reflects the Swedish car company's ability to create a desirable compact SUV.
The Ford Focus ranks seventh, with 21,110 yearly searches. The Audi A3 secures the eighth spot, drawing approximately 20,630 searches per year, while the VW Golf takes ninth place with 19,490 searches each year.
Rounding out the top ten most searched-for used cars is the Volvo XC90, with 17,920 searches for 'used Volvo XC90' each year. This large SUV model from the Swedish car company continues to capture the interest of many used car searchers in the UK.
