2023 Lexus RZ Falls Just Shy Of A Home Run

Lexus appears to have a different stance on battery-powered electric vehicles compared to other brands, and this is evident in their latest offering, the Lexus RZ. The RZ is the luxury brand's first electric vehicle and shares the same e-TNGA platform as the battery-electric Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. While the RZ takes design cues from the Lexus RX, it is smaller and falls into the compact class.

With a horsepower of 308, the RZ offers ample power. However, its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery provides a driving range of only 196 to 220 miles, which may not be considered impressive in 2023. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that many electric vehicle drivers are carrying around more battery weight than necessary.

Despite some concerns, there are several positive aspects to consider when looking at the Lexus RZ. The ride quality is delightful, and both trim levels boast an excellent interior. These factors contribute to making the RZ an appealing choice for an electric vehicle.
