2023 Mercedes-AMG E 53: latest spy shots reveal hot sedan and wagon

Mercedes recently introduced the sixth-generation E-Class, and it appears that the AMG E 53 derivatives are on their way. The latest spy pictures reveal the E 53 in both saloon and estate form, with less camouflage, allowing for a better view of these hot executive cars. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 is expected to have a full reveal later this year, preceding the more powerful E 63 version.

While the overall design of the E 53 will not deviate significantly from the standard E-Class, there are a few noticeable modifications that will make it stand out. These test cars feature a bespoke grille and a larger lower air intake in the front bumper, as well as larger alloy wheels housing a beefier braking system. The rear of the car showcases AMG's quad-tip exhaust layout and a rear diffuser.

One of the major changes in the new E-Class is the inclusion of a new 'Superscreen' infotainment system, which is a smaller version of the Hyperscreen setup. Given Mercedes' tendency to provide additional data and menus in their AMG cars, it is likely that the E 53 will come with new performance-focused features.

Under the hood, the E 53 is expected to have a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine, similar to the S580e's, combined with a battery to produce around 503 horsepower and 750 Newton-meters of torque. This is a significant increase compared to the outgoing E 53's 429 horsepower and 520 Newton-meters of torque. The new E 53 will face competition from Audi's updated S6 and the latest BMW 5 Series.

In the UK, Mercedes is only offering the new E-Class in sporty AMG Line trim due to market demand. Therefore, it is likely that the high-performance E 53 will make up a significant portion of the sales. However, some buyers may opt to wait for the incoming E 63 model instead.
