The second-generation Mercedes AMG GT is set to be a strong rival to the iconic Porsche 911. The design features active airflow elements, a rear spoiler, and the option of a fixed wing made from plastic or carbon fiber. The longer wheelbase and front-end design are in line with Mercedes' current styling direction, while the gently sloping roofline provides rear headroom and a spacious boot with a capacity of up to 675 liters.

Sharing its platform with the AMG-developed SL, the new model now offers small rear seats, making it a 2+2 configuration. Mercedes hopes this added practicality will give customers one less reason to choose the Porsche 911. The AMG GT is powered by twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engines, paired with a nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel drive. The first version to arrive is the AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ with 577bhp and 800Nm of torque, followed by the AMG GT 53 4MATIC+ with 469bhp and 700Nm. Top speeds for the two models are 195mph and 183mph respectively.

The AMG GT features advanced chassis technology, including rear-axle steering, adaptive dampers, an electronic limited-slip differential, and a semi-active hydraulics-based anti-roll bar system. Inside the car, there is a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an AMG Performance steering wheel. Personalization options include AMG Performance seats and carbon-ceramic brakes.

Final specifications and pricing have not yet been released, but it is expected that the new AMG GT will have a higher starting price than the current model, potentially around £125,000. While there won't be a Roadster variant this time, Mercedes is likely to produce a GT3 racing version and higher-performance roadgoing versions, possibly with hybrid technology.

Overall, the second-generation Mercedes AMG GT promises to be a formidable competitor to the Porsche 911, with its aerodynamic design, powerful engines, advanced chassis technology, and luxurious interior.
