2024 Ford F-150 Raptor: 700+ Horsepower Upgrade

Ford has recently introduced the refreshed F-150 at NAIAS 2023 and has officially announced the arrival of the Raptor variant. This new 2024 Raptor pickup truck is said to be the most powerful F-150 ever built.

The Ford F-150 Raptor has always lived up to its name. The first generation was unveiled in 2010, featuring a standard 5.4-liter V8 engine that produced 320 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. There was also an optional 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivered 411 horsepower. Both engines were paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In 2011, Ford decided to discontinue the 5.4-liter V8 and stick with the 6.2-liter unit. The second generation was introduced in 2017, but surprisingly, Ford did not offer a V8 engine for the Raptor at that time. Instead, they equipped it with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, albeit in a detuned version compared to the one used in the Ford GT supercar. This powertrain, rated at 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, marked the debut of the 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission. In 2021, Ford released the third generation, once again featuring the 3.5-liter V6 with 450 horsepower, along with the optional V8 engine. Now, for the refreshed F-150, Ford has confirmed the return of the 5.2-liter Predator supercharged V8 engine. The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor will boast 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque from this power plant, and the 2024 model year is expected to offer even more power.

This 5.2-liter Predator supercharged V8 engine is the same one found under the hood of the Mustang Shelby GT500, but in a detuned version for the F-150 Raptor. In the Mustang, it produces 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque, which is transmitted to the rear axle through a Tremec dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission. However, in the Raptor, the power will be distributed to all four wheels. Given Ford's reputation, it is safe to assume that the output of the Raptor will exceed that of the Ram 1500 TRX, which is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine capable of 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

The refreshed Ford F-150 Raptor comes with several modifications, including dual-valve Fox shocks available on models with 37-inch tires, a modular front bumper, revised headlights, and a new body color called Shelter Green, along with new hood graphics. On the other hand, the base Raptor will have 35-inch tires and will not feature these additional upgrades.

Full specifications of the Raptor variant have yet to be released. Ford has already announced the prices for the F-150, including the Raptor. The 2024 model year can be purchased for $76,775, but that price is for the V6-powered version. Those interested in the V8-powered Raptor will need to select the Raptor R Equipment Group, which comes at an additional cost of $30,575, bringing the total price to $109,900.
