2024 Ford Puma EV: Enhanced Range, Affordable Price

Ford of Europe is facing challenges in market share and profitability, but the company is determined to transition to an EV-only lineup in the European Union and the United Kingdom. The Puma subcompact crossover, manufactured in Romania, plays a crucial role in this transition.

The Puma, named after its predecessor produced from 1997 to 2002, was introduced in 2019 with a design led by Thomas Morel. It replaces the Fiesta in Ford's European lineup and offers a range of 1.0- and 1.5-liter turbocharged engines. The Puma is exclusively front-wheel drive and will be joined by an electric version in 2024.

According to Auto Bild, a German motoring publication, the Puma EV is expected to have a starting price of 36,000 euros, which is equivalent to $39,300. While this may seem expensive, it is in line with other B-segment crossovers such as Peugeot's e-2008. The Puma EV is estimated to have a driving range of approximately 400 kilometers (WLTP combined).

The Puma EV will be produced alongside the combustion-engined versions and will share the Global B-car vehicle architecture with other Ford models like the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier. These small vans offer various engine options, including the 1.0-liter EcoBoost, 1.5-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder turbo diesel, and a 136-ps (134-hp) electric drive unit.

The E-Tourneo Courier, a five-seater van with electric capabilities, was launched in May 2023, and the Puma EV is expected to follow suit by 2024. Both vans are likely to feature a one-pedal driving mode. However, Ford has not yet disclosed the battery capacity and WLTP combined range for either model.
