2024 Ford Puma EV: Extended Range, Affordable Price
【Summary】Ford is planning to phase out combustion-engined vehicles in Europe and the UK by 2030. As part of this transition, Ford will introduce the Ford Puma EV in 2024, a subcompact crossover with an expected driving range of 400 kilometers. The starting price of the Puma EV is estimated to be €36,000, making it competitive in the B-segment crossover market. The Puma EV will be produced alongside the combustion-engined versions of the Puma.
Ford of Europe is facing challenges in market share and profitability, but the company has a plan to transition to an electric vehicle (EV)-only lineup in the European Union and the United Kingdom. The Puma subcompact crossover, manufactured in Romania, plays a crucial role in this transition. Introduced in 2019, the Puma replaces the Fiesta in Ford's European lineup and offers a range of turbocharged engines. It will soon be joined by an electric version, expected to arrive in showrooms in 2024.
The Puma EV is anticipated to have a starting price of 36,000 euros, which is approximately $39,300 dollars. While this may seem high compared to the competition, such as the Peugeot e-2008 and the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, it is in line with the pricing of other B-segment crossovers in the market. The Puma EV is estimated to have a driving range of around 400 kilometers according to the WLTP combined test cycle, making it an attractive option in this competitive segment.
The Puma EV will be produced alongside the combustion-engined versions of the Puma. The platform used for the Puma EV is adapted from the Global B-car vehicle architecture, which is also utilized by the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier vans. The Tourneo Courier, an electric van, was launched in May 2023 with deliveries expected in late 2024. It offers a fast charging capability, adding 87 kilometers of driving range in just 10 minutes of charging.
According to a press release, the Puma EV is set to debut by 2024 and is likely to feature a one-pedal driving mode, similar to the E-Tourneo Courier and E-Transit Courier van. However, specific details about the battery capacity and WLTP combined range of the Puma EV have not been confirmed by Ford at this time.
