【Summary】Hyundai is developing an electric version of its Casper mini-SUV, based on the K1 platform. Recent spy shots reveal that the Casper EV will feature front radar and a range of ADAS features. The exterior design will be similar to the ICE version, but with new alloy wheels and possible new color options. The charging port will be located at the front, and the powertrain is expected to utilize BorgWarner's integrated drive module.
Hyundai has recently launched the electric version of its Casper mini-SUV, which is based on the K1 platform used by the Nios i10 and the Hyundai Exter. The EV version of the Exter is currently being tested in India.
The Casper EV has been spotted with a front radar setup, indicating that it will have a range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features. These features are already present in the ICE version of the Casper and include forward collision avoidance assist, lane departure prevention assistance, high beam assist, driver attention warning, and more. The safety kit also includes 7-airbags.
In terms of exterior design, the Casper EV is similar to its ICE sibling, featuring circular projector headlamps, a radiator grille, front skid plate, shark fin antenna, and more. However, it will have a new set of alloy wheels with a quirky 4-spoke design. The Casper EV may also come with new color options.
The Casper EV has been spotted at a charging station with the charging port located at the front, similar to the 2024 Kona Electric. While details about the powertrain are not available, Hyundai has mentioned that the Casper EV will be equipped with BorgWarner's integrated drive module (iDM) capable of generating 184 PS of power. The production version is expected to have a lower power output and a range of around 250 km to 300 km.
The Casper EV will be available in Hyundai's home market and in Europe. The European version may have a slightly different equipment list, as seen in the test mule with a digital instrument cluster and a larger touchscreen infotainment system compared to the ICE version. Other key features of the Casper EV include Blue Link connectivity suite, mood lamp, fully automatic air conditioner, and various comfort features.
The Casper EV is scheduled to enter production early next year at the Gwangju Global Motors plant, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and the Gwangju city government. Sales in South Korea are expected to start in March 2024, and the EV version of the Exter is also expected to be launched in India next year.
