2024 Hyundai Santa Fe's European Appearance: A Regrettable Outlook

The Hyundai Palisade has been a popular choice for Hyundai customers looking for a three-row SUV with minivan practicality and improved ride height. However, for those who want a rugged and adventurous option, the all-new Santa Fe is a great proposition. Although slightly smaller than the Palisade, the Santa Fe's redesigned look and generous starting price points make it a genuine rival for some luxury SUVs. If Hyundai can offer reasonable pricing and reliable powertrains, it could be a huge success.

The 2024 Santa Fe is set to arrive in North America and Europe in 2024, with South Koreans able to order the first batch starting in September of this year. As we wait for pricing and drivetrain details for North America, it's interesting to note that the SUV will have a different appearance in Europe. The European version will not feature the bold horizontal LED light bar that connects the two H-shaped daytime-running lights (DRLs) found on the front of the vehicle. Hyundai made this decision due to the light bar not performing well in Euro NCAP safety tests.

Despite the absence of the light bar, the Santa Fe will still maintain its masculine and rugged appearance, along with its interior practicality and new features. The H-shaped DRLs and imposing body will ensure that the SUV still stands out on European roads. While the light bar may not have a practical role, it adds to the Santa Fe's overall aesthetic appeal.

The slim light bar has also become a distinguishing feature for some legacy automakers' electric vehicles. Although there is no confirmation of an all-electric version of the Santa Fe yet, a plug-in hybrid option will be available in most markets. Americans and Canadians can look forward to a slightly better-looking 2024 Santa Fe.

In order to achieve the highest safety rating in Europe, automakers must meet new requirements set by Euro NCAP. These include installing child presence detection systems, ensuring that electronically-operated windows and doors open easily in case of submergence, and incorporating advanced autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems for motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists. The AEB must also be capable of preventing head-on collisions.
