2024 Skoda Kodiaq: sneak peek at the latest flagship SUV

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq SUV is set to be unveiled in early October, and the Czech brand has already given us a glimpse of its new interior. The upcoming model will feature physical climate control dials, sustainable materials, and the brand's signature 'Simply Clever' touches. Skoda seems to have combined the simplicity and functionality of the current Kodiaq's interior with the modern, tech-centric design of the all-electric Enyaq iV's cabin.

The centerpiece of the new Kodiaq interior is a 13-inch free-standing touchscreen, accompanied by Skoda's new 'Smart Dials' that will also be featured in the latest Skoda Superb. Each dial has a 32 millimeter display, with the outer two dedicated to cabin temperature control, heating, and cooling for the driver and front passenger seat. The central dial can be used to adjust the volume, fan speed, or drive mode.

Other new features for the forthcoming Kodiaq include a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit driver's display and a head-up display. The gear selector has been moved from the center console to the steering column, making room for a wireless charging pad that can accommodate two smartphones.

The next Kodiaq will also offer an umbrella and ice scraper in the driver's door, and customers can choose from different interior design schemes: Loft, Lounge, or ecoSuite in Black or Cognac. The textiles used in select models will be made from 100% recycled polyester, while the leather in others will be produced using an eco-friendly tanning process.

The outgoing Kodiaq, launched in 2016, remains a popular choice for families due to its practicality and range of powertrains. The new Kodiaq will expand the range of powertrain options, including plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid variants. With these enhancements, along with new technology and fresh styling, the Kodiaq is expected to compete with key rivals in the large SUV class, such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.

The next-generation Kodiaq has been spotted testing, and spy images suggest an evolutionary design that incorporates familiar elements with Skoda's latest design language. The two-piece headlights, upright grille, and signature bonnet dip give the SUV a more assertive look. The body retains the previous model's silhouette, with a high roofline to ensure ample headroom for passengers in the third row. The rear lights are slimmer and positioned higher up.

The major changes for the new Kodiaq will be focused on its underpinnings. While the current model sits on the MQB A2 platform, the next-generation model is expected to switch to the more recent MQB Evo platform, which is used by other Volkswagen Group vehicles such as the VW Golf and Skoda Octavia.

Skoda has confirmed that the new Kodiaq will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, sharing the same mechanicals as the upcoming VW Tiguan. It will also be available with mild-hybrid, diesel, and petrol variants. However, a fully electric version will not be offered due to platform limitations.

The full reveal of the new Kodiaq is scheduled for early October 2023, while the fourth-generation Superb will make its world debut in November. Both models will be produced on the same assembly line in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. Pricing for the second-generation Kodiaq is expected to see a slight increase compared to the current model.
