If you were hesitant about the Maeving RM1 due to its limited top speed of 45mph, the new RM1S version might catch your interest. It is equipped with a new hub motor that delivers 14.1bhp, a significant increase compared to the standard Maeving RM1's 5.9bhp. As a result, the minimum age requirement to ride the RM1S has been raised to 17 years old, but it still falls within the limit for those with L-plates after completing a CBT.

The additional power has a remarkable impact on performance, allowing the RM1S to reach a top speed of 65mph, making it a much more versatile machine than before. However, the range remains the same at 80 miles. Maeving has addressed this by installing 30% larger battery packs in the bike.

Interestingly, the bike can still operate with just one of the two battery packs, although this will halve the range to 40 miles. The batteries can be charged either on the bike or removed and charged elsewhere using the optional battery dock. Charging both packs from empty to 80% takes approximately 3.5 hours, while a full charge to 100% requires 4.5 hours.

Maeving developed the RM1S in response to customer feedback requesting more power and speed. The bike's appearance has remained largely unchanged, featuring a long wheelbase, wire wheels, and a spacious bobber-style seat. However, keen observers may notice that the central housings for the batteries are slightly larger, and there is also an upgraded front brake with a 300mm disc and a three-piston caliper. Additionally, Maeving has introduced four new special edition liveries for the RM1S.

Co-founder Will Stirrup expressed his thoughts on the new bike, stating, "The RM1S is the motorcycle that riders have repeatedly asked us to build—a zero-emissions motorcycle that retains the RM1's aesthetics but is capable of highway speeds. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that all the elements that made the RM1 popular among our customers are carried over to the new RM1S, while delivering the enhanced performance necessary for a wider range of uses. The original Maeving RM1 has been tremendously successful, and for many riders who primarily stay within city limits, it will remain the perfect motorcycle. By adding the RM1S to our collection, we are providing an electric motorcycle for those who need to cover greater distances at higher speeds."

The RM1S is priced at £7,495, compared to £5,999 for the RM1, with deliveries set to begin in March 2024.
