960kW Sedan Unveiled by Luxury Chinese Electric Car Start-Up

The HiPhi A, a high-performance electric sedan, has been unveiled by Chinese electric-car start-up HiPhi. With three motors and a claimed 0-100km/h time of two seconds, it rivals the fastest supercars. The company aims to target customers in search of luxury and high-performance models, bypassing the less expensive end of the electric-car market.

Based on the HiPhi Z, the HiPhi A takes the electric sedan to new extremes with its wild aerodynamics, including an imposing front bumper canards and large rear wing. The performance appearance is backed up by further improvements under the skin. The HiPhi A gains a second motor at the back, delivering a claimed output of 960kW to all four wheels.

According to HiPhi, the A can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a little over two seconds and has a top speed of approximately 290km/h. Additional changes compared to the Z model include rear-wheel steering, carbon-ceramic brakes, and adjustable dampers, along with air suspension and a claimed 50:50 weight distribution.

The development of the HiPhi A received assistance from German firm Apollo Automobil, known for the Gumpert Apollo. Apollo briefly held the Nürburgring lap record for production cars and was featured on Top Gear in the late 2000s. While it has not been confirmed, there is a possibility that the HiPhi A could be sold in Australia, following the company's announcement to start selling its vehicles in the UK by 2026.
