Adam Driver expressed his support for the Hollywood strikes and highlighted the importance of treating actors and writers better in the industry. He made these comments during the premiere of his new indie film "Ferrari" at the Venice Film Festival. Driver, who plays Enzo Ferrari in the film, emphasized the need to support the people you work with.
Driver's presence at the festival was made possible by an interim agreement between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and independent films, allowing them to continue their promotional activities. He questioned why smaller distribution companies like Neon and STX International, which funded "Ferrari," were able to meet the demands of the unions, while big companies like Netflix and Amazon couldn't.
"Ferrari," directed by Michael Mann, is competing for the Golden Lion in Venice alongside 23 other films. Mann expressed his solidarity with the strikers, including both actors and the Writers Guild of America. He explained that "Ferrari" was made possible through the dedication of the crew, who made sacrifices by forgoing large percentages of their salaries.
The film did not receive financial support from any big studios, which is why Mann and Driver stand in solidarity with the unions. The ongoing strikes in Hollywood are primarily driven by concerns about pay in the streaming era and the potential use of AI technology.
