Australian road-rager's attack on motorcyclist caught on camera
【Summary】Summary: A dashcam video captures a shocking incident of road rage on the Hume Highway in New South Wales, Australia, where an Audi driver chases and rams a motorcyclist, causing the rider to crash into a concrete barrier. The Audi driver initially fled the scene but later returned and has been charged with driving recklessly and causing bodily harm.
Road rage incidents are unfortunately a common occurrence, even in New Zealand. According to AA Insurance, 28% of Kiwis have been involved in a road rage incident between 2021 and 2022. Drivers aged 18 to 29 years old are particularly at risk.
This problem is not limited to New Zealand alone. A recent dashcam video from the Hume Highway near Campbelltown in New South Wales captured a shocking incident of road rage between a motorcyclist and an Audi driver.
In the video, the motorcyclist, who is 50 years old, can be seen maneuvering through multiple lanes of traffic with the silver Audi closely following behind.
While it is unclear why the Audi is pursuing the motorcyclist, it is worth noting that lane filtering, which involves riding between stationary or slow-moving cars at speeds under 30kph, is legal in NSW. However, lane splitting, which is the same action at speeds over 30kph, is not.
After tailgating the motorcyclist for a few seconds, the Audi pulls up beside the bike and appears to intentionally collide with it. As a result, the rider is forced to veer across the entire highway and crashes into the concrete barrier.
Several witnesses stop to check on the injured motorcyclist, who seems to be holding their left leg. Meanwhile, the Audi driver flees the scene.
According to the Daily Mail, the 55-year-old driver later returns to the scene and talks to the police. As a result of their investigation, the driver is charged with driving recklessly or furiously, driving at a dangerous speed or in a dangerous manner, and causing bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle.
In addition to the charges, the driver's license is suspended, and they are scheduled to appear in court on November 21.
