BMW's latest affordable electric motorcycle production commences

BMW Motorrad has begun production of the BMW CE 02, a commuter electric motorcycle that was recently unveiled. The CE 02 is a smaller and lower-power alternative to the CE 04 electric motorbike, with a price tag of just US $7,599 compared to the CE 04's price of around US $12,000.

Production of the CE 02 is being done in partnership with TVS Motor Company, a prominent player in the global two-wheeler industry. TVS Motor Company, established in India in 1978, is known for its wide range of motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds.

The CE 02 is currently being produced at TVS's Hosur manufacturing facility near Chennai and is set to be launched internationally across Europe and North America. However, there are no plans for an Indian market release at this time.

BMW aims to attract a younger and more urban audience with the CE 02, which features a top speed of 59 mph (95 km/h). While it may not be suitable for highway use, the bike's speed makes it ideal for urban and suburban areas. The CE 02 is also expected to come with a variety of accessories for customization, appealing to its target audience.

Similar to Kawasaki's urban electric motorcycles, the BMW CE 02 uses a pair of small removable batteries with a total capacity of 3.92 kWh. This provides the bike with a maximum range of 56 miles (90 km). However, the real-world range may be lower when traveling at higher speeds or using the higher-power riding mode due to the bike's 11 kW peak-rated motor.

In other news, BMW Motorrad recently issued a stop sale notice for all its gasoline-powered motorcycles in North America, which has since been removed. During this time, the electric CE 04 remained the only model available for sale.
